Anon; woodcutter, who copied Baldung's Holy Family with St Anne and St Joachim; Nagler suggests Peter Steinbach as a possible name. The same initials were used by a draughtsman of a German drawing dated 1533 (Rowlands 437). The following notes on this draughtsman are taken from the Rowlands catalogue:
This artist was a draughtsman and etcher in Nuremberg, active c. 1525-40. His landscapes strongly reflect the general influence of the masters of the Danube School and leading landscape artists in Nuremberg in the period 1535-50. While Van de Waal was the first to bring together a grouping of prints and drawings around works signed by the Monogrammist, he evidently did not take sufficiently into account when constructing this oeuvre the existence of other contemporaries who were similarly working under the same influences, such as the Monogrammists CR and HWG. It yet remains to sift out satisfactorily the landscape drawings of this period from south-east Germany into clearly recognisable hands.
