Inscribed in pen and brown ink at lower right: Carraci and numbered at lower right: 795 (Sparre) and 64 (struck out). Numbered in pen and brown ink at upper left: 849.

A drawing of exactly the same subject, attributed to Ludovico, in Nasjonalgalleriet, Oslo. It further demonstrates similarities with a drawing in the Uffizi of the Holy family in a landscape, to day considered a work by Agostino as well as a drawing of Virgin and Child (in reverse) in the British Museum. Catherine Loisel finds an attribution of this drawing to Annibale most plausible. [Bjurström, It. Drawings, cat. no. 1391 (recto)]
