In the Caroline Era, Sweden needed artists and craftsmen who could create milieus that represented the monarchy a nd the realm. Burchard Precht arrived from Germany at a young age and, as just a pupil, worked on the flagship project of the time – Queen Dowager Hedvig Eleonora’s state bedchamber at Drottningholm. This portrait was painted by Martin Mijtens, from the Netherlands. They were both members of a circle of important migrant artists and merchants in Stockholm.
