This watercolour was painted in Constantinople during the Zorn’s honeymoon. Emma served as the model but the painting is by no means a portrait. Emma’s collaboration is, rather, an expression of the couple’s different ways of working together. The subject is a variation on a popular theme at the time with women dressed in white that might indicate a bride or a female confirmand.
