Anshelm Schultzberg had not yet been in France when he painted the Demolition of the Old Children’s Home. To many artists, it had been necessary to travel south in order to paint light and atmosphere in a convincing and natural way. This painting has been viewed as a picture of how the old city makes room for the new. Cramped and unhealthy environments are replaced by modern ones, with better conditions.
