Christ and the other guests are reclining on sofas around the table in an antique manner, while the servant standing to the right is in 17th-century dress. The architectural style shows that this is the artist’s hometown Florence. On the verso of the canvas, Dolci has written that the painting is a study for a composition with larger figures (known in at least two versions) and dates it to his thirty-third year, that is 1649.
