Kreuger’s painting shows Stockholm one evening in March 1900. The scene is Norrbro and the whirling waters of Stockholms ström. Some people are walking along the bridge and the quayside – lit by street lamps in the still dusky eve between winter and spring. The mood is lyrical and poignant, yet sober and down to earth, just like a novel by Hjalmar Söderberg.
