Carl Fredrik von Breda worked in London in the 1790s. He studied under Joshua Reynolds and was influenced by his portraiture, known as “grand manner”. Women, primarily from the aristocracy, were often depicted as classical goddesses in dramatic landscapes. Breda returned to Stockholm in 1796 and the following year he painted a portrait of Teresa Vandoni in Bellevue, near Brunnsviken. She was an Italian actor and singer who worked in Stockholm.
