This furniture was shown in the Swedish pavilion at the 1925 World’s Fair in Paris. Tutankhamun’s tomb had been discovered in 1922, its treasures fascinating an entire world. The plain and unaffected character of ancient Egyptian art appealed to modern architects and industrial designers striving to simplify design. The items here have simple forms and smooth surfaces, but were executed by very skilled craftsmen using the finest materials.
