Johan Gustaf Sandberg was a both productive and influential portraitist in the second quarter of the 19th century. Here he has copied five of his portraits of leading contemporary poets and scholars and combined them into a group image. From left to right, we see Johan Olof Wallin, archbishop and hymnwriter; Frans Michael Franzén, bishop and poet; Jöns Jacob Berzelius, chemist; Erik Gustaf Geijer, historian and poet; and Esaias Tegnér, bishop and poet.
