According to an inscription on this painting, Per Olsson was able to “conduct himself well, speak well and drink well for all of the peasantry”, a very positive testimonial. He was Speaker of the Peasant Estate at the Diet of 1686 and hence one of the godparents at the baptism of Prince Charles Gustav. Olsson is standing in a room of the Royal Palace, with a throne visible in the background. His bent posture and stick were part of the conventional way of representing peasants.
