Gustav Vasa, the Swedish Renaissance king pictured in the great murals in Nationalmuseum’s upper stair hall, is usually shown as a hero. Here, however, he suffers the indignity of listening to his third wife, thirty years his junior, talk in her sleep about her former fiancé. Note the similarities between the painting’s Renaissance setting and the Renaissance revival chairs in L.O. Smith’s dining room.
