• NameDaniel van Heil
  • Nationality/DatesFlemish, active during 1600-talet
BiographyPainter of landscapes. He was son and pupil
of the painter Léon Heil I and brother of Léon II. He
was a follower of Jacques d’Arthois. He became a
master in the Brussels guild in 1627. He mainly
painted three different types of landscapes, with fires,
with ruins and with winter effects. His winter landscapes
are obviously influenced by the Dutch painter
Salomon van Ruysdael. Van Heil preferred to paint
leafless trees in contre-jour so that the branches
resemble lace.
