BiographySpinello Aretino was born to a goldsmith from
Arezzo presumably in 1345–1352. His vast oeuvre
consists of large fresco cycles and with polyptychs.
His style was initially close to that of the
late Medieval artist Andrea di Nerio and was
later influenced by Taddeo Gaddi and Antonio
Veneziano. He was active throughout Tuscany
and received important commissions in Florence,
where the St Benedict frescoes in the church of
San Miniato are especially noteworthy.
