BiographyCavallino was active in Naples, where he trained
in an academic tradition. He specialized in smallscale
pictures on religious subjects and scenes
from Roman history and mythology, commissioned
by private patrons and art dealers. Cavallino
was influenced by a range of sources, including
Neapolitan, Spanish and Flemish painting. His
naturalistic manner and tenebrism evolved later
into works distinguished by their intense colours
and elegant, theatrical composition.
