BiographyMichelangelo Cerquozzi (Michelangelo delle Battaglie) rome 1602–1660 Michelangelo Cerquozzi was born and mainly active in Rome. He frequented the studio of Cavaliere d’Arpino, and was in contact with and inspired by the Flemish artists Pieter van Laer, Jan Miel and the so-called Bamboccianti, as well as the Italian painter Pier Paolo Bonzi, also called Gobbo dei Frutti and Gobbo dei Caracci. Cerquozzi entered the Accademia di San Luca in 1634. He painted in different genres, among them NM 209 98 99 biblical and mythological scenes, still lifes, genre pictures and some important battle scenes, which was the reason for his nickname Michelangelo delle Battaglie..
